Overview

Getting into domestic gas takes more than theory — it takes a structured route to competence. Our LCL Awards Domestic Gas MLP is an approved Managed Learning Programme for new entrants, combining centre-based training with supervised on-the-job experience to bring you to the standard required for ACS assessment. You’ll master gas safety legislation, combustion, flueing, ventilation, pipework, appliance installation and fault-finding, build a portfolio of real evidence, and leave ready to sit your ACS assessments and take the next step toward Gas Safe registration.

This programme gives new entrants a structured, evidence-led route into a safety-critical industry. You’ll build the practical experience, technical understanding and portfolio evidence needed to progress confidently to ACS assessments as a Category 1 candidate.

With the core domestic gas skills and supervised site experience behind you, the programme can open the door to work in domestic installation, servicing and maintenance, with further progression towards Gas Safe registration once the relevant ACS assessments are completed.

  • Ventilation requirements for domestic appliances
  • Gas pipework materials, sizing and installation
  • Pressure, flow, tightness testing and purging
  • Domestic gas meters and regulators
  • Basic heating and hot water system design and controls
  • Electrical safety and safe isolation for gas work
  • Installing, commissioning, servicing and fault-finding on domestic boilers, water heaters, cookers and space heaters
